Vote for local organizations in national fight against hunger
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Walmart has $3 million on the line to help the fight against hunger. Three local organizations are competing for a slice of the pie.
The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank, Canaan Outreach Center and Grace Community Center would like to win the extra cash to help their missions of providing healthy food to the community. Your vote on Facebook could help them win.
Walmart will give $45,000 to the top 40 food banks. It will also give $20,000 to 60 individual agencies that use the food banks which secure the highest number of votes. The winning organizations will be announced in May.
Last year alone, the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank fed nearly 200,000 kids in the eight counties they serve, including kids that attend Canaan Outreach and Grace Community centers.
Although this is a competition, all three organizations say a victory for one is a victory for them all.
"It will help us, not just our center, but it would just help the community as a whole, at large. You know, you just don't know what you will be doing when you place that vote. Actually, I'll tell you what you'll be doing, you will be blessing somebody with food to eat," said James Easter with Canaan Outreach Center.
Voting is open from now until April 30. You can vote once per day, which means you can spread your votes around to help all three area agencies.
