OTTAWA COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Ohio National Guard's
Civil Support Team was out on Put-in-Bay Thursday, conducting disaster training
at the airport.
"We're honing our skills
on WMD response, and working with civil authorities," said Lt. Col. Jeffery
The team joined forces with
local first responders for the day-long training.
It started with a plane
making an emergency landing. Then, the crews found the pilot dead because of a
chemical spill or attack.
"[There's] one of these
teams in every state," Suver said. "Our job is to interface and work with first
responders – local, state, and federal – to identify these hazards."
The team learned about the
proper safety procedures and the proper gear to wear. Jeffery said the training
"We like to come out and
do this so we can get to know our first responders, so that if, for whatever
reason, there happens to be a real incident, it's always nice to know our
limitations and capabilities," he said.
