PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Students at Owens
Community College are determined to give girls the prom of their dreams – with the
help of area businesses and community members.
The group "Raising
Awareness" has collected almost 300 dresses, shoes and accessories for a Prom
Dress Extravaganza, which will take place this Saturday at Owens.
Raising Awareness has put on the event for
three years, and they say this effort is very near and dear to their hearts.
The goal is to make sure the cost of prom is not an issue for students.
"They can come in and the
dresses are cheap," explained Kara McCloskey, Raising Awareness president. "Like,
a $125 dress is marked down to 20 bucks. And they range from $5 to $20 for all
of our dresses. It gives the girls who can't afford an expensive prom dress a
chance to come in and buy a dress and have their own little
princess/fantasy/fairy tale night."
The Prom Dress
Extravaganza will be Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Owens
Student Health and Activities Center on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
