Police to parents: Talk to your kids about strangers

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Police Department says they've received several calls about stranger danger, and each one is different.

In the past two months, TPD has investigated several incidents of people approaching children, asking if they want rides. None of them were related incidents, and most ended with no charges being filed, but police want residents to know that if these types of situations occur, residents should always call them. They take the reports seriously.

TPD also had a message for parents.

"We want to make sure that the parents are getting involved with how their kids are getting to school," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan. "And talking to their kids about what's appropriate conversation, what's not appropriate, who they get into the car with and who they shouldn't."

Heffernan also said parents should not be afraid to call TPD, and let them investigate and determine if a crime was committed.
