New police presence at Danbury High

DANBURY TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Danbury High School students returned from spring break Monday to find a police officer stationed in the school.

It's a new security measure the school district started, in response to the Newtown shooting. Danbury Township Police officers were granted 24-hour access to Danbury Schools.

"While the tragedy was unfolding at Sandy Hook, I was actually on the phone with school administration," said Danbury Police Chief Mike Meisler. "We had thought about this all weekend, but by that Monday morning we were ready to get this ball rolling."

Officers now have a permanent parking spot and an office inside the high school.

The measures bring a little comfort to Danbury parents.

"It's just a presence," said Kory Conraid, a parent. "A lot of times a presence will stop things, so I just think it's excellent."
