Students at Owens Community College are raising awareness about homelessness in the Toledo area, and they're sleeping outside to do so.
Participants got to experience what it is like to be homeless by spending the night in tents on the college's courtyard lawn, outside the Student Health and Activities Center.
The sleep out started Monday afternoon, April 8, and goes through Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Students say they hope their efforts will get people more involved in working to improve the community.
Amanda St. Hilaire stops by the sleep out on ‘Your Morning,' to learn more about how the students plan to inspire change.
Additionally, students are collecting personal hygiene items for the Cherry Street Mission Ministries.
Owens' Sleep Out for the Homeless Tent City event was coordinated by the College's Office of Student Activities. For more information on how to donate, call (567) 661-2569 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 2569.
