A Murfreesboro man is accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman before leading law enforcement on a wild chase through two counties early Tuesday.
The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said Cortavis Marable, 24, allegedly broke into a home on Manor Drive and demanded the woman inside, Pynthia Savely, drive him to Gardner Drive.
When Marable refused to get out of the vehicle at Gardner Drive, Savely turned around to drive home, but Marable allegedly beat her until she jumped out of the car and he then chased her down with her own vehicle.
When Marable caught up to Savely, Murfreesboro police said he allegedly tried to force her into the trunk, but when he realized she wouldn't fit in the trunk, he forced her into the back seat, slamming the door on her foot.
Savely then kicked the door open and fled a second time, but Marable allegedly caught her again, dragged her back to the car by her hair and threw her in the car, officials said.
After escaping from the car a third time, Savely ran toward an approaching police patrol car.
Marable then led several police officers and sheriff's deputies on a pursuit that led from Rutherford County into Cannon County, where Marable drove off Highway 64, and the vehicle rolled down a hill into a line of trees.
After Marable jumped out of the wrecked car, a Rutherford County sheriff's K-9 officer located him in a nearby field.
"Whenever the dog was able to catch up to him, he actually pulled his shorts down around his ankles, because they were sagging-type shorts, so when the dog got a hold of him he pulled his shorts down around his ankles. At that point, he couldn't go anywhere," said Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.
Marable allegedly told investigators he was "on drugs" and "on cocaine," and an arresting officer recovered a crack pipe and cocaine from his possession.
Marable was jailed in Rutherford County on several charges, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, auto theft, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony evading arrest, driving on a suspended driver's license and DUI.
Bond was set at $63,500 and a hearing is scheduled for June 12.
The woman involved suffered minor injuries but should be OK.
