Sylvania saves with recycling changes

Posted: Updated:
SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The City of Sylvania is kicking off its new recycling effort, which includes new recycling carts and a new schedule.

The city is partnering with Republic Service for the change. Households will soon see a new, larger recycling cart in their front yard.

"They should look forward to one of these two toters, two sizes, to be delivered next week – the week of the 15th – and the following week," said Sylvania Mayor Craig Stough. "That's what they need to set out for their recycling."

The new 65- and 95-gallon containers come with lids, and may save residents time on litter cleanup.

"On strong windy days, we'll have litter blowing around the neighborhoods, so we wanted to look at the possibility of covered containers," Stough said. "And because they're larger, we're going to be able to go to every-other-week recycling collection."

Residents can turn in their old 18-gallon tubs to be recycled, or they can keep them, but they will no longer be used for the city's recycling pickup beginning April 22.
