members who attended the Raymer Area Block Watch meeting are hoping police will
have more of a presence at Raymer Elementary after a 15-year-old student
admitted to bringing a loaded gun to school last month.

concerned parent. "You hear about it and you're like, ‘Not us, not our school,
not our children.'"
has three children who attend Raymer. She says her worst nightmare came true
the day she heard about the loaded gun brought to school.

Raymer Area Block Watch has been going strong for eight years. Every month they
meet and discuss crimes they've seen around the neighborhood. Thursday night
they talked about having more of a police presence near the school.
said the block watch has played an important role in the community.

attention of people, and starting to clean it up and coming together," she
said. "I think it's what they need to do."
watch leader Robin Sopko says sometimes children just don't know better.
kids…they get gifts sometimes of knives, or cool BB guns, and they want to show
their friends, like show and tell," Sopko said. "So each different situation
has to be weighed out."
