A woman is behind bars, arrested for robbing a gas station convenience store and fleeing the scene on Saturday morning.
Around 9:22 a.m., the Monroe Sheriff's Office was called to an armed robbery at the Lightning Quick Gas and Go, 640 Saline Street, in Petersburg, Michigan.
A female store clerk called 911 saying she had just been robbed.
According to the clerk, a female suspected came in to use the restroom when there were no other customers in the store. The clerk told authorities the suspect walked behind the counter and pulled out a .22 caliber handgun from her waist.
The suspect pointed the handgun into the store clerk's stomach and ordered her to hand over all of the money in the cash register and the keys to the store's safe, according to authorities.
The clerk handed the suspect approximately $300 from the cash register, and the suspect fled on foot.
Using the description given by the clerk, Monroe County Deputy Sheriff Joe Gore located the female suspect matching the description walking in a near Summerfield Middle School with the handgun.
Deputy Gore gave the suspect verbal commands to stop. Instead, deputies say she began removing her outer clothing, threw the handgun and money on the ground, then ran.
Sheriffs set up a perimeter around the general area with a helicopter, searching from the air and on the ground with a K-9 unit for the suspect.
She was located by the K-9 unit at 10:45 a.m. hiding in bushes by Summerfield Middle School.
The 41-year-old Monroe County woman was arrested and taken into custody.
Sheriffs say she was intoxicated and uncooperative.
She now faces charges of ARmed Robbery.
Monroe Sheriffs recovered the gun and stolen cash.
