TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A Toledo man is locked up, accused of breaking into two different houses, surprising people inside both of them.
Toledo police say 32 year-old James Michael Phillips of Elmhurst Road in Toledo broke into a house in the 5400 block of Harvest Lane.
A fifteen year-old girl, who did not want to be identified, told us she and her cousin heard knocking on the front door.
They didn't know who it was so they didn't open it.
‘It stopped knocking for like two minutes, so I looked out again and there was nobody there. Then we heard knocking again so we went back in my mom's room again and shut the door. And then I heard my bedroom window open,' she said.
The girl said she had previously opened her window because it was hot in her room.
She says she later shut it, but never locked it.
‘And there was a guy crawling through the window onto my bed,' she continued.
Police say that man was James Michael Phillips.
The teenager was lucky that is all the farther he got.
‘And I screamed and told him to get out. And he went backwards out my window and ran.'
Police say Phillips broke into another home on Branch Street through a living room window as a resident hid.
Investigators say he took jewelry and cash from a bedroom.
After police arrived at the home on Harvest, a neighbor, identified only as "Brian," says he helped bring the man in.
‘I was driving down the street to get away from them because they were all trying to box me in and I saw him cutting through the yards and I just pointed out where he was at. Pretty much they caught him from there,' said Bryan.
Police say James Michael Phillips admitted to the burglary at the second house, on Branch.
He is scheduled for an arraignment on charges from both incidents, Monday morning in Toledo Municipal Court.
