TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Boston Marathon attack comes less than two weeks before northwest Ohio's biggest marathon.
The Medical Mutual Glass City Marathon will be held Sunday, April 28, and will begin at the University of Toledo.
The Class City Marathon is run by the Toledo Roadrunners club, and its president Kevin O'Connor was in Boston Monday, along with his wife Cheryl and eight other members that ran in the Boston Marathon. None of them were hurt.
Vice President Chris Cunningham said his race director for the upcoming marathon has already contacted police from all five jurisdictions the runners will move through, and he believes the marathon will be safe.
"There's absolutely no reason to not do the Glass City Marathon…because of something like this," Cunningham said. "There are multiple marathons every weekend. For something like this to happen is obviously a tragedy, but the chances of it happening again are so slim."
The Glass City Marathon will go through Toledo, Ottawa Hills, Sylvania and Sylvania Township, and finish at the Glass Bowl at the University of Toledo.
Participants can expect a strong police presence along the entire route.
