There was a moment of reflection concerning the Boston bombings and other recent tragedies on the University of Toledo campus Monday night.
Those who practice Judaism, Christianity and the Muslim faith gathered for an open dialogue at the Center for Religious Understanding's 11th annual event. The keynote speaker talked about peacemaking.
The event has grown to host 150-200 people each year. Guests are encouraged to sit with people they don't know, from different religions, to spark conversation and religious understanding.
Still unsure of the motive in the Boston bombings, event-goers said the focus on peace and the overall message of religious understanding became as important as ever.
"There really is, sadly, perfect timing to it tonight," said Jeanine Diller, director of the Center for Religious Understanding. "If there is a religious element or contribution to it, tonight is just all the more timely that we need to get together with people from different perspectives in order to understand them, and learn to care about them, and not to hate each other."
