The intersection of Airport Highway and Holland-Sylvania Road has reopened after traffic signals failed in the area Thursday afternoon. However, the signals are still not fully functional and are flashing.
Officials say a high voltage power line came down because of strong winds, which created a power surge, blowing out traffic cameras and signals. Power lines that overheated and dropped are still on the ground.
According to a representative from the Division of Transportation, the intersection of Airport and Holland-Sylvania reopened after about an hour and a half.
Several businesses and St. John's Jesuit High School also lost power. St. John's dismissed students because of the outage.
Police say they expect power to be out in the area until at least 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
