MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee National Guard Armory in Murfreesboro will soon bear a new name to honor a fallen soldier.
The Daily News Journal reports National Guard says a dedication and renaming ceremony is planned on May 4 to name the structure after 1st Lt. William Eric Emmert.
Emmert was killed in combat while deployed to Iraq in 2009. He was a platoon leader with Murfreesboro's 269th Military Police Company.
Capt. Mitch Thompson, the commander of the 269th, says renaming the facility is just "a small token of respect" for the sacrifice that Emmert made for his country.
