TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The University of Toledo kicked off its 14th annual Earth Fest on Tuesday.

UT's Society for Environmental Education hosted the event, teaching students and the local community  how to take small steps to help the planet.

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. Events are held worldwide to promote environmental protection.

To encourage locals to  be more environmentally-friendly, organizers of Earth Fest offered free bicycle tune-ups through Toledo Bikes, and several other perks for people taking steps to "go green," including the following:

  • Bring 10 plastic bags and bottles – Get a reusable one for free
  • Recycled Art Contest
  • Informational fair with perspective employers and recruiters.

Earth Fest is from 11 a.m. to 4p.m. on Tuesday, at the Centennial Mall on UT's Main Campus, 2801 West Bancroft St.

Other events include live music, local bands, and guest speakers.
