TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Police are warning the public of a scam that has been hitting the Toledo area by targeting people, especially college students, through want ads.
The position is for a "Personal Assistant" for an art dealer who says the location is New York. When the individual calls the number, a female answers and conducts a phone interview. She then hires the individual, but tells him or her that she is currently out of the country in Australia. The female says she will be sending a check to be deposited so the individual can buy her some art pieces. Two days later, a check arrives via UPS with instructions on where to cash it.
Authorities want everyone to remember that any time anybody wants you to deposit a check for them, it is probably a scam.
