EDITORIAL: FAA furloughs aren’t the way to go

(Toledo News Now) -

This week the strategists for President Obama played his sequester cut FAA trump card.

As expected, the plan to furlough flight controllers one out of every 10 scheduled work days has already caused ridiculous and unnecessary delays. Also as expected, these delays mostly inconvenienced the middle-American that the President so frequently claims to protect.

By the way, it's easy to go online and discover that other choices exist to make extensive cuts in the FAA budget. But none of those cuts will engender the outrage and the anger that being stranded in airports so effectively heats up.

The President's plan is to so inconvenience you that, in response, you furiously contact your Congressional representative  and tell him to support the President's bigger government agenda.

All of this deserves to backfire. Big government is synonymous with bigger waste. Your average mom does a much better job managing money than any of the so-called experts whining about sequester cuts. Give a team of moms that challenge and the cuts would be made and the planes would still be flying on time.

And the first Washington expert who whined about it to a mom would be spending the night in his room instead of spending your money frivolously.
