iTunes turns 10 years old

(CNN) - Apple's trademark music store iTunes turns 10 this weekend. The digital download store has revolutionized the way the world buys music.

But since the store launched a decade ago, the Recording Industry Association of America says annual music sales have plummeted by almost $5 billion.

The kicker? People are buying more music than ever, only now, it's in the form of 99 cent single song downloads and not entire albums consumers used to buy in stores.

In 2012, 1.4 billion digital singles were sold. That's seven times more than CD sales.

iTunes is responsible for almost a third of all digital music sales.
