WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Troy Township is looking to bring in a new Home Depot distribution center, and businesses in the area are hoping it gets approved.

If built, the distribution center would sit just north of the Peaking power plant off Pemberville Road. It would be a 1.6-million-square-foot facility on 157 acres of land.

Brian and Austin Banas, of B&B Repairs, have been on Pemberville Road for seven years. They said the distribution center would be a good opportunity and would bring a lot of jobs to the area. The project is still very early in the planning stages, though.

"There's a lot of due diligence that has to be done, that would need to be done on the company's part, as well as they would still have to get an internal, corporate approval," explained Wade Gottschalk, the Wood County Director of Economic Development.

According to Gottschalk, the project would have no impact on the Home Depot distribution center near Findlay.

The company still has to get site plan approval before making a final decision, but Gottschalk is hopeful the Troy Township site will win out.

Plans for the proposed site will go before the Troy Township Zoning Commission on May 9.
