NORTH BALTIMORE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local school district held a mock crash Thursday to teach high school students a valuable lesson as prom night approaches.

With the school year winding down, it's now prom season across the region. North Baltimore school administrators decided to put on a very graphic illustration of what could happen to students who drink and drive on prom night.

The mock crash showed the aftermath of a head-on collision. The entire student body of North Baltimore High School was in attendance. Many of the victims were portrayed by current students.

Administrators hope seeing their peers in the carnage will help emphasize the message to students.

"They're going to get a little bit more of the actual experience, seeing some of their actual friends in situations that they don't want to see them in. So we're hoping it'll hit a little closer to their hearts and will be more memorable in that sense," explained Marlene North, superintendent of North Baltimore Schools.

On Friday morning, the high school will hold a special assembly discussing the mock crash and will host special speakers who are survivors of drinking-and-driving crashes.
