DUNDEE, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The Cabela's in Dundee is re-opening Friday afternoon at 4 after a fire damaged and closed the store April 24.

Workers have been working 24/7 cleaning up soot and smoke damage, as well as replacing most of the inventory.

A small electrical fire started in a ceiling light fixture. Hot rubber melted, raining down on a small area of the 225,000-square-foot outdoor store.

"And we had to clean every surface, inside and out, throughout the entire building," said Cabela's Manager Joe Ross.

Not all of Cabela's famous animal mounts survived. Dozens had to be tossed out, most of them stuffed birds.

"Every animal had to go through deep cleaning to ensure that we removed any smoke odor that may be present with chemical residue," Ross said.

Cabela's is one of Michigan's top tourist attractions.

Many folks showed up Thursday, unaware the store was closed.

"Well sure, there's always something to see in there and something to buy," said Lew Campbell.

Cabela's is not saying how much business was lost or the total amount of damage.

"Clothing and other merchandise is handed over to an insurance company, and we'll take it from there," said Cabela's Spokesman Wes Remmer.
