BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Bowling Green State
University board of trustees voted unanimously Friday to ratify the first
It's been a long time
coming for BGSU faculty members.
A 3-year contract was
approved, with a yearly 3 percent increase to the faculty's base salary. It
also includes tenure and promotion protections.
Both sides are calling
this a fair first contract. They say it will help benefit the students and
faculty, and ultimately build BGSU.
David Jackson, president
of the faculty union, says the work is just beginning though.
"The contract is 150 pages
of new policies and they don't enforce themselves," Jackson said. "So we have
to educate everyone on what's in the contract so that it actually gets
implemented and enforced."
The contract went retroactively
into effect May 1.
Jackson says the next step
for the union is to find out the details from the university on their plans to
cut some of the faculty members.
