Sylvania considers changes to recreational vehicle code

Posted: Updated:
SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sylvania residents who own a camper, RV, or boat may have to find a new place to park it, should the current code be changed as planned.

The City of Sylvania is looking at changing a number of options regarding recreational vehicles, including seasonal limits and size limits to such vehicles in city limits.

The current code was written in 1964, and was only changed a few years ago to eliminate a size limit of 19 feet.

City council held a public hearing on the matter Monday, but council members were left with more questions than answers.

Currently, the city code asks boats and RVs to be parked three feet off the property line, to avoid hindering public safety. Other concerns involving corner lots, side yard parking, and enforcement all need further definition and research.

"Should there be size limitations? Should we allow only during certain times of the year?..Should we keep it as is?" asked Kevin Aller, director of public service. "We will be going back and taking a look at what other communities do, how that fits into what we want here in the City of Sylvania, and then come back with a recommendation."

Council delayed action on the matter, and planned a committee meeting for June 3 at 6:30 p.m. to give administration time for further research.
