Sylvania businesses are preparing for "Downtown Delights," an annual event that allows residents to shop later in the day, just in time for Mother's Day weekend. Business owners who traditionally participate in the event say each business offers refreshments, raffles, samples and special sales.
Barbara Hudson came up with the idea more than a decade ago, when she and her husband, Scott, opened Hudson Gallery. Now, hundreds of people line the streets of downtown Sylvania for the experience.
"It's at a perfect time of the year, and they love to stroll the streets. And there's refreshments and there's entertainment, and of course, there's specials," said Hudson.
This year, more than 25 businesses will be participating. Owners expect the streets to be packed with families and friends.
"It's a good night out for girlfriends, because all the shops are open, the restaurants. You can stop and have a drink somewhere and do your shopping," said Katherine Volpi, owner of C'est la Vie Interior Design.
The event takes place Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
Those attending will also get the chance to give back. Bring an article of clothing to donate to the Sylvania Area Family Services and you will receive a coupon from a downtown business.
