School officials want to dispel any rumors about Smyrna High School having problems with bed bugs.
There were concerns that three classrooms were being affected by the pests. Someone contacted the Daily News Journal in Rutherford County about the possible problem.
The newspaper contacted district officials who said there are no bed bugs at the school.
The rumor may stem from a teacher's home being treated for bed bugs. The school was checked for bedbugs, but none were found.
Clover mites, a bug commonly found in lawn and plants during the spring, were found at the school. The school was treated for the mites on Tuesday.
The district spokesman told the DNJ there have been isolated cases of bed bugs at various schools over the past couple of years but presently there are no cases.
