SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

State Treasurer Josh Mandel held a business roundtable with Sylvania area business owners Wednesday to discuss economic issues and provide an update on the state budget.

Sylvania Mayor Craig Stough joined the conversation about economic issues in Ohio. Mandel said there were several reasons he wanted to visit Sylvania.

"I chose to come to Sylvania because of the strategic location of the area, it's proximity to the turnpike, to 75 and the lake," said Mandel.

Mandel sat with a pen and paper, taking notes of what the panel had to say. The goal, he said, was to hear from them on how representatives can make decisions in Columbus to help spur economic growth in northwest Ohio.

He believes northwest Ohio - and Toledo especially - can help lead the economic comeback for Ohio because of its manufacturing base, blue collar workforce and entrepreneurs.

"The small tradition of small business and manufacturing here, and I think this just embodies the opportunities we have for economic growth in the area and throughout the state," explained Mandel.

Mandel also discussed the state budget and how it will affect families across Ohio. He says he hopes Columbus will pass the budget in a bipartisan way to do the right thing for Ohioans.
