TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A second member of Toledo City Council is getting ready to announce his mayoral bid.

Councilman Mike Collins says he's planning within the next week or so to announce his bid for mayor this year. Collins would join Councilman Joe McNamara, County Auditor Anita Lopez, Alan Cox and Mike Kronwinski on the list of candidates running against Mayor Mike Bell, who's running for re-election.

Collins says he was approached several weeks ago by a group of citizens asking him to consider running to bring new leadership to the city. He says he still needs to talk a few things over with his wife and family before making an official announcement.

"We have been considering it. At this moment in time, I think we can probably safely say within the next week - to no more than 10 days - we will probably be announcing we will be entering the race," said Collins.

Someone close to Collins says that announcement will be made May 15.

Meanwhile, Republican Theresa Gabriel has yet to announce whether or not she's in the race.
