"It's the perfect opportunity
for Sociology students to come out and learn in their own natural setting,"
said Dr. Sharon Everhardt of Lourdes University.
Fifteen students will work
with the families to clean up and learn about each other.
"Part of the reason behind
that is so, you know, students have the opportunity to be engaged in their own
community and learn a little bit about some of the struggles families face,"
After spending time cleaning
up, the students and families will head back to the shelter for a cook-out,
which is something families at the shelter are looking forward to.
"We don't' always get the
chance, or have the funding to be able to do something like what Lourdes is
doing for us tonight," said La Posada Program Coordinator Michelle Poole. "They're
supplying all the food, all the supplies, for them to have a cook-out and
really feel like it's home and see that other people in the community do care."
