(Toledo News Now) -
The bizarre story about the three kidnapped women in
Cleveland has captivated and fascinated most of us.
The monsters who denied these women their basic freedom
and dignity deserve the harshest penalty possible. As the details are released,
the abhorrent circumstances of their daily existence will be beyond normal
However, there is another storyline that is worth noting.
The rescue of these women would not have happened without the involvement of a
neighbor, Mr. Ramsey. It would have been easy for Ramsey to have walked past
the house and ignore the cries for help. He chose otherwise and now the
women are free.
The police cannot be everywhere and see everything. Normal
citizens can make a difference if they are willing to tell police what they see
and hear. Each of us has a moral duty to be concerned with the welfare of
others. This applies to gang activities, car theft, bullying and so many
other sociopathic behaviors.
If you see something that is wrong, do what Mr. Ramsey
did. Care enough to call the police. If each of us does just a
little, it will make a huge difference.
