Block watch on Facebook helps recover stolen car

Posted: Updated:
POINT PLACE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A woman's stolen car is back in her driveway thanks to the watchful eye of a neighbor and Facebook!

Facebook is taking block watch groups to the next level by helping neighbors communicate.

Early Friday morning, Cheryl Cerveny noticed her car had been stolen right out of her driveway in Point Place. After contacting the police, she logged onto Facebook and posted in the Point Place Block Watch group about it.

Within two hours, someone else commented and said they saw a car matching that description parked on a nearby road. It turned out to be Cerveny's, and is now back in her possession.

She says if it weren't for Facebook, she thinks her car would still be missing.

"You get everything on there, from bikers speeding down the road to somebody broke into somebody's house," Cerveny said. "And you know, people respond."

Police don't know who took the car at this time.
