Construction on the Ohio
Turnpike at Michigan Avenue in Maumee has sparked some concern for residents.
They fear the shutdown
will interfere if there's a need for emergency assistance. Residents north of
the Norfolk Southern railway tracks in particular worry that police, fire and
EMS may not be able to respond to emergencies if a train is blocking the Michigan
Last week, residents
notified the Maumee Department of Public Safety about their concerns. The city
assured residents they will have a timely response.
"We've made arrangements
with the contractors," said Sgt. TJ Stratton of the Maumee Police. "They are
aware of the situation and will move equipment if need be. We also have another
alternative location that allows us to get access to that area, so the people
should not worry."
