TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Production of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been delayed about one month, according to Chrysler.

Production had been scheduled to begin sometime in the third week of May, but will now start in June. The Toledo Assembly plant is currently producing pilot vehicles to work out kinks in the assembly process.

Chrysler's Senior Vice President of Engineering Mark Chernoby told the Detroit Free Press the delay was due to a "wide range of issues."

Chernoby also said that the issues are common when beginning production of a brand new vehicle.

"Our main objective is to launch with the best quality vehicle possible for our customers on whatever date that may be," Chrysler Spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said Thursday.

Chrysler says the delays in production will not affect their plan to begin selling the new Cherokee this fall.
