TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Crews are leaving the scene of a gas leak, which caused traffic problems in west Toledo.
The fire department says the gas leak is the result of construction on Interstate 475. The gas main is a 16-inch distribution line.
Columbia Gas has shut off the leaking gas distribution line. Columbia Gas and Toledo Fire and Rescue are examining the damaged distribution line to determine if I-475 can reopen.
There are no home evacuations yet.
Columbia Gas spokesman Chris Kozak says five homes on Stahlwood Avenue on the north side of I-475 are in an evacuation zone set up by Columbia Gas and Toledo Fire and Rescue. However, he does not know if anyone home was asked to leave.
All lanes of I-475 that were closed have been reopened.
The Toledo Technology Academy and McKinley Elementary School both released students at usual time. They are north of the gas leak and in a safe zone.
There is no impact on Toledo Hospital.
