TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo City Council has approved special use permits for
the city to renovate and reopen Fire Station 3, and to build a new Fire Station
12 at Blair Park, both in north Toledo.
Council has earmarked $4.8 million for both projects.
Station 3 at Erie and Bush will receive a new bay for housing fire engines, as
well as rehab work to the historic portion of the fire house. Station 12 will
be a completely new facility.
Chief Luis Santiago says the goal is providing better
coverage for people in north Toledo and improving the fire service overall.
"We have a lot of data that supports what we're doing,
our run volumes are going up steadily over time," he said. "We have to identify
what the trends are and allocate our resources appropriately to give a good
The goal is to reopen Station 3 by the end of the year,
and open Station 12 in early 2014.
