TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The statistics are against foster children, but the Life Institute in Toledo is trying to change that by offering a night of celebration and scholarships.

Prayers for Marissa Roberts, Deonte Moss, and Marjory Curry were answered when they got out of their troubles lives as foster children, and got educated as adults. That's why they're contributing to the Life Institute to help current foster children.

Life Institute is preparing for the second annual Foster Care and Higher Education Gala.

"My experience in foster care and life has been like a war," Moss said. "A personal war for me, and I feel like I came out victorious."

He and the others are hoping recognition for the foster kids' hard work will inspire them to thrive.

"My mom and dad might have made a lot of mistakes," Moss said. "But I am not defined by those mistakes, and I use that in my successes today."

The formal gala will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Grand Plaza Hotel on Summit Street in Toledo. Tickets are $50 per person at the door.
