Bikes were lined up and engines were revved in Northern Kentucky for an annual motorcycle ride honoring veterans on Wednesday.
The event, called the Annual Ride to Freedom, was a send-off for several members participating in the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington D.C.
A group of bikers, including veterans, participated in the local ride, beginning at the YMCA in Ft. Thomas and ending at the Peace Bell in Newport.
Along the way, they passed seven schools flying special POW/MIA flags for Memorial Day.
Participation of Ft. Thomas Independent Schools in the local event was coordinated by Highlands High School junior Eric Hempleman.
In 2012, Washington D.C. police estimated 500,000 motorcycles participated in the annual rally.
