MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Silky O'Sullivans on Beale Street is world famous. The man who made it that way hosted his last party Monday afternoon.

A toast was made to Thomas "Silky" Sullivan in front of the bar that shares his name. Then he took his last ride down a street he made feel like home for millions.

"It was very emotional," said friend Mel Spillman. "Silky has been a part of my life for a very long time. And I'm going to miss him a lot."

Spillman showed up to bid farewell to a friend during his procession, which was more of a parade. It was perfect for Silky.

"What he did was he cared about Memphis more than anyone, basically, I know," said Performa Entertainment CEO John Elkington.

Elkington lured Silky from Overton Square to Beale Street.

"At the time we were in a big competition with Overton Square. The fact that he would move here said a lot to the community," said Elkington. "Took me seven years to get him to come to Beale Street, but he'll last forever. That's what it's all about."

Spillman said Memphis will be tough without Silky.

"Especially Beale Street. I'd like to see who could carry his legend. I don't think anyone could fill those shoes. Those are big shoes to fill," said Spillman.

Silky's funeral was Monday.

His bar is alive and well. Family still manages it, and everything will stay the same.
