Northwood residents, leaders want action for Woodville Mall

Posted: Updated:
NORTHWOOD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents around the Woodville Mall are getting fed up with the empty building. Now city leaders want to see something done, as well.

Leaders say having an empty building in the city is not doing much for other business owners in the area.

The mall officially closed in 2012. In December, the Andersons shut down, and now the Sears is the only thing standing.

The City of Northwood filed a lawsuit against the property owner, hoping they will tear the building down or clean it up and get business in there again.

City Administrator Bob Anderson says they have been in talks with the property owner's representative, who says there are companies interested in the Andersons and old Elder Beirman buildings, but it is all in preliminary stages.

"From our standpoint, we still gotta follow the law," Anderson said. "It's still a piece of private property, so we have to do things through the courts, so it kind of puts a hamper [on things]."

Anderson says the city is working hard to find a solution, but the legal process does take time.
