3rd fatal motorcycle crash involves teen driver

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Vivian Road approximately a half mile south of Nadeau Road in Frenchtown Township Wednesday shortly before 6 a.m.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Mark Yount, 49, of Monroe, MI, was operating a 1999 Honda motorcycle northbound on Vivian Road when he was struck by a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Garrett Lawson, 17, of Monroe, MI, who for unknown reasons, drove left of center into the northbound lane.

Yount was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash. He was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

Lawson was transported to a hospital in Trenton, MI, where he is listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with more information about the crash is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 734-240-7493.

This is the third, local, fatal motorcycle crash in the past three days that involved a teen driver.
