TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Police are gearing up to keep the littlest members of T-town safe. "Safe T-City"
kicks off Wednesday.
Toledo residents say they attended Safe T-City as children, and now they're
sending their little ones to participate. This year marks the 36th
year TPD has held the program.
the course of eight days, Safe T-City teaches kids getting ready to go into
Kindergarten how to be safe as they move through everyday life. Officers go
over how to safely cross the street and understand street signs, bike safety,
stranger danger, and fire safety.
gives the children of that age a bonding experience with the police officers,
so they know that they can trust and count on police officers as they're
growing up," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan. "It builds that relationship, which is
another aspect of the program."
