(WMC-TV) - Colleges and universities across the Mid-South are considering tuition hikes, including community colleges around the state of Mississippi. But a tuition increase may not be the case for students in North Mississippi.
Many students will see tuition hikes between 3 and 12 percent, but for students at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Southaven, and Oxford, that will not be the case.
"We did not offer faculty and staff raises, we did not add any positions in order to offer that flat tuition to students," said Northwest Mississippi Community College Director of Communications Sarah Sapp.
North Mississippi was fortunate. Coahoma Community College, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Mississippi Delta Community College were also able to avoid tuition hikes.
Students at Northwest say aside from saving them cash, it may reverse a slight dip in enrollment numbers.
"It helps our school get more enrollment and more people will look to Northwest because of the lower tuition rather than other community colleges with the higher tuition," said student Shelbi Dunlap.
