Two of the men accused in the deadly 2012 shooting that killed a 1-year-old and injured her 2-year-old sister rejected plea deals Tuesday.
Keyshawn Jennings and Antwaine Jones rejected plea deals offered them by the prosecutor on Tuesday. The prosecutor says all plea deals are now off the table for Jennings and Jones.
The third suspect, James Moore, was offered a separate plea deal. It is unclear whether he has accepted that deal.
All three men face 11 charges each, including aggravated murder and murder.
Jones' father, Antwaine Jones, Sr., says his son is not guilty, and that he made the right decision by rejecting the plea deal.
"Why admit to something you didn't do?" he said. "Because you've got to live with this for the next however many years. You've got to live with this...I don't want you to feel guilty or bitter about nothing, so I just, like I say, put it in God's hands and he's going to control it."
The August 2012 shooting at central Toledo's Moody Manor Apartments left 1-year-old Keondra Hooks dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Her 2-year-old sister Leondra Hooks was also shot, but eventually recovered.
Jones says he knows his son was not involved because they are close with the Hooks family.
"We kick it with them all the time," he said. "They our family, but see the outside looking in don't know that. Them is our family, our people. Them were Antwaine's people."
All three men are scheduled to be back in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for another pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 24.
