TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Unemployment rose both in Lucas County and the City of
Toledo in the month of May. In Lucas County, unemployment jumped to 8 percent,
up from 7.8 percent in April.
The city of Toledo saw a slightly larger increase, climbing from
8.4 percent in April to 8.7 percent in May.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services estimates
there are 194,700 employed Lucas County residents, with 16,900 still looking
for work. In Toledo, the department says 120,900 people are working and 11,500
Unemployment rates for both the city and the county hover
above the statewide and national averages. The state of Ohio saw 6.9 percent
unemployment in May, below the national average of 7.6 percent.
