Adrian gets new ambulance

Posted: Updated:
ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Adrian firefighters and paramedics say they are very excited to receive a brand new ambulance.

The new ambulance will serve as a back up to the hospital if the Lenawee community ambulance is already in use, or taking too long to get to the scene.

They say this is a major upgrade from what the fire department had before.  They were only able to do basic life support services with the old ambulance.

But a new cardiac monitor and other equipment will allow paramedics to do much more as they are on their way to the hospital.

The new ambulance cost a little over $150,000, but paramedics say it's worth every penny.

"There are times in the community where the ambulance service that is currently here might not be available, or they are not coming from close enough to where we can provide the service ourselves or until they show up," said one paramedic.

Funding for the new ambulance came from the Adrian's firefighters union and the city. They are waiting on a final inspection from the state. The ambulance should be up and running by July.
