The City of Adrian is trying to figure out what to do
about the cleanup of an abandoned gas station.
The gas station at North Main and Front streets is in bad
shape and has been for years. There are cracked and shattered glass
windows, overgrown weeds and the soil beneath it all is contaminated.
Officials with The Michigan Department of Environmental
Quality say residents can expect to see crews tear the gas station down in late
August or early September. It will take a few weeks because underground
storage tanks have to be removed and the contaminated soil has to be dug
Once all of that is done, the commercial property will go
up for sale. Residents and business owners in the area are very excited.
"We have a beautiful downtown, so the opportunity to bring
in more business is phenomenal," said David Horstman, owner of Sauce Italian
Grill and Pub.
We will continue to follow this story and the
redevelopment in downtown Adrian.
