Sylvania Twp dispute with fire truck provider

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Sylvania Township Fire Department is down one truck after sending it to get repaired and having it returned with even more damage.

The department has had problems with their fire trucks since they purchased them from KME. The recent damage has come after a long dispute between the township and the company about the maintenance of the trucks.

The truck has several dents that didn't come from fighting fires. The truck was hauled away for repairs and straps came loose. That's when the doors flew open, causing $50,000 worth of damage.

Township Trustee Kevin Haddad says the township won't have to pay for the new damages, but he says fire trucks should be functioning properly from day one.

"The trucks have been nothing but nightmares since we bought them, and this was before I came on board, because I would have never went to agreement to purchase them," Haddad said.

The trustees are hoping to resolve the issue by having KME buy back the fire trucks and refund their money. They're hoping that happens so they don't have to go to court.
