A local church is helping to make Toledo a cleaner community.
The University Church on Hill Ave. held its first ever soap-a-thon.
The event is part of the church's personal needs ministry.
The idea came about when it was discovered that many of the church's low income neighbors need toiletries.
The owner of "abundance soaps" stepped forward and whipped up twelve batches of lemongrass soap for the event.
It's hoped that the giveaway may even reduce crime in the area.
‘Body soaps, bath soaps and laundry detergents are the number one items stolen from grocery stores and convenient stores,' said Emily Laurel of University Church.
The soap is being distributed through the church's food for thought mobile pantry program.
