A look ahead: Making split-second decisions during home invasions

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - What would you do if someone tried to get into your home in the middle of the night? Many people say they would have to make a quick decision between grabbing a phone or grabbing a weapon.

"I think any person who felt their life was threatened and had a gun, would use it ... I still have kids here. You don't fool with my family," said Mid-South mom Sherry Carruth.

Monday on Action News 5 at 10 p.m., Action News Five Investigator Ursula Madden digs deeper into the decision-making behind victims of a home invasion.

"If it turns out to be some young teenager or some kid who ran away from home and crawled in, you know. You may not be near as zealous about wanting to defend it against that person as somebody that escaped prison that's murdered three people," said Southaven police chief Tom Long.
