TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A Toledo man is the proud new holder of the record for the largest fish ever caught in the state of Ohio.
Patrick Johnson hauled in a 53.65 pound carp while bowfishing in the Sandusky County area of Lake Erie. The fish is 45 inches long and 32-1/4 inches in girth. Johnson caught the carp on June 9, but the record was only recently certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee.
The previous record fish was also a carp. That fish was arrowed in Sandusky Bay by Rich Cady on May 28, 2008, weighing 47.65 pounds and measuring 38 inches long.
